Travel Insurance
Because sometimes the unexpected becomes part of the itinerary.
You can plan every detail of a trip, but some things will always be outside of your control. Travel insurance can help protect you and the investment you've made in your travels when unexpected situations arise before or during your trip.
As part of the planning process, I'll help you explore the travel insurance options available to you so you can make an informed decision about the coverage that's right for you.
Why Travel Insurance Matters
You've planned for the adventure. It's worth planning for the unexpected, too.
Travel insurance isn't about expecting something to go wrong. It's about understanding what could happen and deciding how you'd like to protect yourself and the money you've invested in your trip.
Depending on the plan selected, travel insurance may provide coverage for unexpected situations such as emergency medical expenses while travelling, cancelling or interrupting a trip for a covered reason, travel delays or misconnections, and baggage loss or delay.
Emergency Medical
Provincial health coverage may not cover all of your medical expenses when you're travelling outside your home province or Canada. Travel medical insurance can help with eligible emergency medical expenses if you become sick or injured while away.
Cancellation & Interruption
Plans can provide protection for eligible non-refundable travel expenses if a covered event means you have to cancel your trip, return home early or change your plans after departure.
Travel Disruptions & Baggage
Depending on the coverage selected, protection may also be available for things such as baggage loss or delay, travel delays and missed connections.
Your Coverage Options
Travel insurance isn't one-size-fits-all
A weekend away in Canada, a three-week European adventure and several international trips throughout the year don't necessarily require the same kind of coverage. I work with Manulife Travel Insurance to help my clients explore available options based on their trip and individual circumstances. Depending on your needs, options may include:
Emergency medical coverage
Trip cancellation and interruption
All-inclusive coverage combining medical and non-medical benefits
Multi-trip coverage for frequent travellers
Top-up coverage where existing emergency medical coverage doesn't extend for the full length of a trip
We'll talk about your trip, what coverage you may already have, and the options available so you can make an informed choice.
"But I Already Have Travel Insurance..."
Already covered through work or a credit card?
That's great and it's still worth taking a closer look. Existing coverage can have limits on things such as the length of the trip, eligible expenses or the amount of coverage provided. Manulife specifically offers emergency-medical top-up coverage for travellers whose existing credit-card or multi-trip coverage doesn't extend for their entire trip. Before relying on existing insurance, take some time to understand exactly what you're covered for and what you aren't.
Know Before You Go
Coverage can also be affected by factors such as pre-existing medical conditions and Government of Canada travel advisories. It's important to review the policy wording for the plan you're considering and ask questions about anything you don't understand before purchasing. Manulife likewise advises travellers to review their policy for applicable coverage, limitations and exclusions before travelling.
Coverage is subject to the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the applicable insurance policy.
Let's make travel insurance part of the conversation.
Travel insurance might not be the most exciting part of planning an adventure, but it's an important one. I'll help you understand the options available so you can make a decision that feels right for you and your trip.
